Most health plans must cover a set of preventive services — like shots and screening tests — at no cost to you. This includes plans available through your health insurance provider.
It’s important to note that these services are free only when delivered by a doctor or other provider in your plan’s network.
Preventative healthcare services
The Affordable Care Act preventative healthcare services include: doctors’ services, inpatient and outpatient hospital care, prescription drug coverage, pregnancy and childbirth, mental health services, and more.
Some plans cover more services. Plans also must offer dental coverage for children.

Will the Affordable Care Act cover my flu shot?
Flu and other vaccines are required to be covered by your health insurance without charging a copayment or coinsurance.
But, it’s important to be sure to check with your insurance company to find out if you must go to a specific facility to receive the vaccine. Some insurance plans only cover vaccines given by your doctor or at a limited set of locations.
